Membership
Membership shall be open to any member of the college community regardless of age, sex, race, creed, national origin, handicap, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or economic status. The Black Students’ Association of The College of Wooster shall solicit its members from the campus community. The eligible include students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Section 1. Forms of Membership: There are two forms of membership
offered by the BSA. They are for both Confirmed and Intended members.
1.1 Confirmed Members: Confirmed members are students who have met the minimum activity level for full membership. Confirmed members are offered certain benefits and support that non-members and Intended Members are not. Confirmed members have a full vote in all matters, given preference when planning events, and are eligible for BSA financial support in academic endeavors outside of the organizations regular program scope (IS, projects, etc.).
1.2 Intended Members: Intended Members are students who
have expressed an interest in joining the BSA but are still in the process of meeting the minimum activity level required for confirmed membership. Intended members are given preferential voting rights and all matters and receive preference over non-members when planning events.
1.3 Membership Requirements: Students who wish to become confirmed members of the BSA must attend, in one semester, at least three general assembly meetings and two official programs. They must also have read the charter in practice for that year and be willing to demonstrate knowledge of its contents upon request.
1.4 Confirmation: Upon completion of the minimum activity level requirements, intended members are eligible for confirmation. In order to be confirmed the intended member must be nominated by an already confirmed member of the BSA. Following nomination the intended member's confirmation must be approved by the general assembly with a majority vote. The General Assembly may pose questions toward the intended member or their nominator should they so choose.
1.4A In order to maintain membership status, members must continue to meet the minimum activity level and will receive monthly updates in regards to the current list of confirmed members. While it is expected that confirmed members will attend every meeting, members must let an executive board member know if they are unable to attend a meeting on a weekly basis.
